Requirements for getting married in acapulco
Although we will do all the leg work for you, both the bride and the groom will be required to meet the following requirements to be legally married in Acapulco:
- Copy of birth certificate
- Copy of first page of passport
- Copy of Tourist Visa
- Medical exam/blood test (Must be done in Acapulco)
(Note: HIV+ persons cannot marry in Mexico) - Copy of divorce decrees, if any (1 year waiting period)
- Four witnesses with proper identification
- Payment for license and judge to perform ceremony
- Q: Is my marriage legal in the United States?
A: Of course it is. Don't worry, you won't have to repeat the ceremony back in the States. Civil marriages in Mexico are just as binding and legal as marriages that take place in the U.S.
- Q: Will we have to arrive in Acapulco days ahead of our event to get the medical exams and blood work done?
A: No. We have special access to resources that allow us to get these reports in less than 24 hours, seven days a week.
- Q: Why do we need a judge to marry us if we want a religious ceremony?
A: In Mexico, civil and religious ceremonies are separate. You can opt to get married legally by having a judge perform a civil ceremony. You may also choose to have a religious or spiritual ceremony. These two ceremonies are not combined as they are in the U.S. You can opt for either one or both of these ceremonies; however, for your marriage to be legal, you must have a civil ceremony either here or back home.
- Q: Do you plan weddings for the couple only (elopments)?
A: Aboslutely. We will work with you on ANY size wedding, from two to 2,000. We have experience in handling elopments and making the event special and memorable for the couple who chooses to marry without the presence of their family and friends.
- Q: We are planning on having our wedding at a villa. Should we contact you first, or rent the villa first and then contact you?
A: Contacting us prior to renting a villa in Acapulco could mean saving thousands of dollars; we recently saved a couple $3,700 USD on their villa rental. We also have the experience to help you decide which villas are appropriate for your event. Always contact us before making ANY arrangements in Acapulco for your wedding or your stay.
Although you will read and hear various stories about the requirements for marriage in Mexico, we have a special relationship with the Registro Civil (the office that issues your license to marry and actually conducts the ceremony).
All of the necessary paperwork (except the tourist visa) will be forwarded to us via email prior to your arrival and we'll take care of everything.
Upon arrival, the couple will immediately get their blood work done and we will assume responsibility for getting the results to the proper authorities in Acapulco.
